Ambassador Giuseppina Zarra meets Bulgarian Prime Minister Stefan Yanev

Ambassador of Italy to Sofia Giuseppina Zarra met Bulgarian Prime Minister Stefan Yanev today. During the cordial meeting, in addition to underlining the excellent state of bilateral relations between the two countries and the excellent collaboration in the EU and NATO in view of the upcoming international meetings, the main current international political issues have been examined in depth, with particular reference to the issue of enlargement to the Western Balkans and the adoption of the negotiating frameworks for the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania to the European Union. Ambassador Zarra has highlighted to Prime Minister Yanev the priority that Italy gives to the start of the process of EU accession for the two countries of the Western Balkans expressing the hope that the bilateral issues still open between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia can find a quick settlement.

The prospects of the elaboration of the Bulgarian National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the priorities of the Government until the next elections were also examined. The colloquium also provided an opportunity to lay the foundations for future cooperation projects between Italy and Bulgaria, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
