Conference “The road to COP 26: the choice of Bulgaria”, organized by the Embassy of Italy in Sofia and the British Embassy in Sofia, in collaboration with the Bulgarian non-governmental association Move.bg

In the framework of the preparation of COP26, which will take place in Glasgow from 1 to 12 November 2021, under the joint presidency of Italy and the United Kingdom, in order to give its contribution and to focus the issue of climate change in the political and public discourse, the Embassy of Italy and the British Embassy in Sofia, in collaboration with the Bulgarian non-governmental association Move.bg organize on September 28 a hybrid event entitled: “The road to COP 26: the choice of Bulgaria”.

In a discussion between Bulgarian diplomats, politicians and administrators, and experts from the three countries, the event will seek to answer the questions:

– “Why is the 26th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change one of the most important global forums this year?”

– “What is the importance of cooperation between the parties?”

– “How is Bulgaria preparing for the important international meeting COP 26, dedicated to fighting global warming?”

The conference is divided into three parts: It’s time to act; Together we can do more; The choice of Bulgaria. From Italy, Prof. Michele De Nigris, Director of Sustainable Development and Energy Sources at “Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico – RSE” will connect to share Italy’s vision for the energy transition.

The conference “The road to COP 26: the choice of Bulgaria” will take place in Sofia and live streaming online, on September 28, from 10.30 Bulgarian time, in Bulgarian language.

In preparation for Cop26, Italy will also host a series of important preparatory events for the Conference. In the next few days, the Pre-COP will take place in Milan, which is the preparatory meeting of Ministers that is traditionally held about a month before the COP, with the aim of offering the Ministers representing the main negotiating parties the opportunity to informally discuss key political issues.

From September 28 to October 2, again in Milan, Italy will also host the event “Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition”, linked to the Pre-COP. The forum will offer young people from around the world the opportunity to develop concrete proposals, to be brought to the table of the Pre-COP and COP26. “We believe it is fundamental to promote the commitment of the younger generations and channel youth mobilization in a positive way, as they will be the ones to have the future of our planet,” said Ambassador Giuseppina Zarra after the virtual meeting she had with one of the two young Bulgarian delegates at the “Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition” forum.

In addition, Italy will be organizing a high-level ministerial event in Rome focused on environmental and climate challenges in Africa entitled “Meetings with Africa.”
