The Farnesina launches ITALY. Land of Wonders, a video game to introduce Italy, its cultural heritage and its wonders to foreign audiences, and in particular to young people. Accurate graphics and suitable for adults and children, ITALY. Land of Wonders tells the beauty and tradition of our country in an interactive and fun way. Totally free and available in 11 languages, it will be available worldwide from 19 July in versions for iOS and Android, smartphones and tablets on Italian.esteri.it, the new portal of the Farnesina for Italian culture in the world.
Elio is the old lighthouse keeper who, every morning, with the help of 20 sparks recovered during the night from the 20 regions of Italy, lights the Sun that shines wonderfully on our country. At the beginning of the game, we see Helium at sunset – the reference is to the Greek myth of the god Helios – in search of an assistant to carry out his burdensome task. He summoned a mysterious character at the foot of the Lighthouse: the player, involved in an exciting night adventure around Italy, to recover the 20 sparks, turn on the Lighthouse and make the Sun shine again.
In his journey, the player will meet 5 Custodians who will guide him to discover Nature, Gastronomy, Art, Entertainment and Design, the 5 key areas of our cultural heritage. At the end of the course, the big surprise: the player will take the place of Elio, symbolically becoming the new Lighthouse Keeper, with the mission to protect the beauties of our country. But first it will have to overcome as many as 100 exciting levels of ‘puzzle game’, each with its 3D reconstruction of a place symbol of the treasures of Italy. A real exciting journey in stages, through seas and mountains, cities and castles, traditions and myths of our country. Designed for those who already know Italy, but also and above all for those who want to discover it – and maybe to improve their knowledge of the language -, ITALY. Land of Wonders is also a travel guide, thanks to 600 texts full of stories, news, curiosities collected in a leadable album.
Finally, don’t forget the music! Original compositions inspired by great classics of Italian music, from melodrama to baroque to famous soundtracks, frame a game that is also an educational tool, fun and informative, for schools in which you study Italian as a foreign language.
