Opening of the exhibition "Diplomatic Images", on the occasion of the visit to Bulgaria of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Luigi Di Maio

Opening of the exhibition

The visit to Bulgaria of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio, at the invitation of Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, was also the occasion to inaugurate an exhibition on diplomacy entitled "Diplomatic Images".

The exhibition, now in the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was produced by the Embassy of Italy in Sofia and by the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia.

Ambassador Stefano Baldi, who created it, briefly showed to the two Ministers some of the historical photos of Italian diplomats that characterize the exhibition. The main goal of the exposition is to illustrate the role and activities carried out by diplomats.

The brief:

"Italian diplomats have an ancient tradition which has evolved and consolidated over time. This exposition aims to illustrate some aspects of diplomatic work through a series of images that outlines the roots of contemporary Italian diplomacy. All the photos included in the exhibition are part of the larger “Diplomatic Images” project, conceived and coordinated by Stefano Baldi (

The project led to the creation of a dedicated website of historical photos (1861-1961) concerning Italian career diplomats of the past. The website is available at the following address:

The main purpose of the initiative is to preserve important photographic evidence of the history of Italian diplomats. It is a contribution to promote the knowledge and appreciate the Italian diplomatic tradition of many political figures, more or less known, which have represented Italy across the world. This exhibition only includes a selection of all the photos."
