Milan official candidate to host the European Medicines Agency (EMA)

MILAN OFFICIAL CANDIDATE TO HOST THE EUROPEAN MEDICINES AGENCY

In view of the UK’s departure from the EU, the European Medicines Agency headquarters will be relocating from London. Milan is among the candidate cities submitting proposals to host the new headquarters.

Milan’s bid will be based primarily on:

• The location of the city, in the heart of Europe, with efficient transport links to many other European cities, including London;

• The ecosystem of science and innovation, particularly in the medical field, with numerous world-class specialist medical treatment and research centres and three other EU bodies (the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Training Foundation (ETF)) based in the region;

• The quality of life offered by the city, including the efficient public transport system, the world-class art and culture scene, the wide range of sporting and other leisure activities, and the proximity to the mountains, the lakes and the coast;

• The choice of international/bilingual schools and excellent universities, many of them offering degrees partly or fully in English;

Career opportunities for family members of EMA staff, particularly with the numerous foreign companies based in Milan and in the sectors that drive the region’s economy, such as finance, fashion, engineering, energy services, agrifood and communications.

The city will offer a tailored welcome service to help families with the relocation, helping them complete paperwork, find accommodation, register with doctors, find schools, seek jobs, manage taxes and register for Italian language courses.
